Black Tie or Flop Flops…It’s all the Arts.

Hello! Just about everyone loves music. Right now I’m into electronic/dubstep/house kind of music (think a lot of “wubs”). I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea…my parents love Mc Cartney, Santana and anything mojo blues. And my sister’s into Zen. But isn’t that the magic of music. It touches everyone a little different.
So if you don’t love bass like I do (you are missing out!) there’s are an incredible number of different venues in the Estero area offering just about everything. And…bonus…most of them are informal and affordable. So it doesn’t matter whether you’re tuxedo and merlot at the opera or flip-flops and margaritas at the beach lounge.

One of the most popular large venues is the 1500 seat Barbara B Mann at Florida Southwest University. It’s only a 20 minute drive from Genova and is best known for their touring Broadway shows in the beginning of season and a host of musical and comedy performing artists and shows. Upcoming is the 1950’s rock and roll style musician, Chris Isaac. Try to catch it.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the 2400 seat Artis in Naples with it’s Philharmonic Orchestra and weekly performances of touring artists and plays. And its right next to the Baker Museum (see the next blog). Its all a 20 minute drive from Genova.

Want more. Want it closer. How about dinner and a show at Southwest Florida Performing Arts Center. Coming up are a series of tribute shows to Chicago, Tina Turner, Van Halen and Michael Jackson. Plus Don McClean live. Just a few miles from Genova on Bonita beach Road and Three Oaks Parkway.

Did you know that Southwest Florida is second in terms of rock and roll only to Nashville?

Probably not…I just made it up! But jokes aside, there’s a lot of great local talent at the local bars and restaurants. Bands like Hot topic, Kalhua & Creamand Manhattan to name a few. They move around so check out where they’re playing and do yourself a favor. Be there.

There’s lots more which I’ll talked about in my NEXT BLOG!
“But Kevin” you ask, “you haven’t stuck to your blog schedule for months!”
Okay, you’re right. I haven’t been the most consistent. However the big cheese has asked me to write 3 to 4 blogs a month. So I’ve made a schedule!
2 blogs a month on anything Southwest Florida lifestyle.
1 blog a month update on construction at Genova.
1 secret project blog a month! To be revealed in September!
And this time I’m sticking to this. I promise! Or the boss will have my head!!
Thank you for taking the time to read this! Please send me your comments.

One last thing…for the people who keep writing me to tell me there are no mountains in Florida. “Yes I know”. The sunset photo on our website home page photo is not Florida. It’s the Mediterranean town of Comogli, on the Liguria coast just south of Genova, Italy. It’s part of the inspiration for Genova at Coconut Point..
If you have any questions about GENOVA itself, call 239-948-2929 and ask for Debbi or Karen. They’re very friendly and very smart.

Thanks…enjoy…talk soon!
KEVIN

Kevin – Love your chatty style and the witticisms…especially the crack about SW Florida being second in rock ‘n roll to Nashville…I did laugh! It was a great read as I was in need of a smile 😉 I must make a point of visiting some of the locales you mentioned…who knew??? Being both a symphony and a blues and rock n roll fan…you’ve provided something for just about everyone…well me at least! But what about jazz, folk, indie, reggae and hip hop ? Anything for those folks? Good luck with the content schedule… sounds exhausting…hope you’ve got a good expense account or lots of night hawk contacts you can interview.
Looking forward to learning more. You’re on a roll…may your bass keep booming…and in the words of Nicki Minaj:

Boy you got my heartbeat running away
Beating like a drum and it’s coming your way
Can’t you hear that boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, bass
Got that super bass boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, bass
Yeah that’s that super bass …Boom, boom, boom, boom…
Boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, bass he got that super bass
